Road Safety Department Recommends Use Of Sand Trap On The Road Shoulders At The Jelapang Tol For Emergencies

ROAD SAFETY DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS USE OF SAND TRAP ON THE ROAD SHOULDERS AT THE JELAPANG TOL FOR EMERGENCIES  

i) We wish to inform road users that in view of numerous crashes which have taken place at Jelapang Tol, Kementerian Kerja Raya has constructed a sand trap cushion and a wire rope barrier on the road shoulders approaching Jelapang Tol Plaza in keeping with good engineering practise.

In the event of emergencies road users are advised to use this sand trap for emergency braking rather than crashing into the Tol Plaza or other vehicles.

ii) Rainy season makes the road slippery. Drivers are reminded to:

  • Slow down
  • Avoid over inflation of tyre
  • Switch on dim light in heavy rain
  • Beware of hydroplaning
  • Practise lane discipline
  • Use seatbelts

iii) Motorcyclists :

  • Wearing helmet
  • Improve visibility by using bright colour
  • Avoid speeding and weaving
  • Use side mirrors
  • Ensure rear light is in working order





STATISTIC FOR "OPS SIKAL" FROM 5 NOVEMBER TO 13 DECEMBER 2007

A total of 50,557 motorcyclists were inspected with action being taken against 8,753 of them. Meanwhile 13,202 other offences were detected among motorcyclists with 9,249 summons being issued. Out of that figure, 1,172 motorcyclists were compounded.

On the breakdown of the offences, 5,027 cases relates to driving licence, 3,244 relates to road tax, 169 cases relates to not wearing of safety helmet, 452 cases relates to no side mirrors, 278 cases relates to registration number, 20 cases relates to beating the red light, 348 cases relates to damages of PG1 and 3,388 cases involving others offences.
