IT been four months since the streetlights along the Jalan Duta interchange in Kuala Lumpur have been faulty, leaving motorists driving in the dark.
According to Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, the affected areas are the stretch from the Tun Razak Hockey Stadium and Taman Duta up to Jalan Ipoh.
He said there had been several road accidents lately.
Lim brought the matter to the attention of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and was later told that the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) was responsible for the lights.
"I took the matter up with the TNB, who did a through investigation.
"The TNB said it was due to stolen cables and that DBKL was responsible.
Lim urged the party responsible to fix the problems as it affected thousands of road users daily.
Retiree A. Balasiva, 62 said the situation posed a great nuisance to the people.
"They can spend millions building highways, but why is it that they cannot fix the lights.
"We are worried for the safety of the road users," he said.
Businessman Vincent Tang, 46 said it’s like an accident waiting to happen, especially at night.
"The DBKL should solve the problem for the sake of the road users as it is dangerous to drive at night.
"There are many DBKL officers monitoring the area and they should be aware of the problem," he said.
